The Nuestra Senora de Providencia is a centuries old church made of Tabique with a nipa roof; the convento was made pf thatch and wood.
Maria, like the other towns of Siquijor province, is quiet and peaceful. The Poblacion is charming and giant acacia trees shade the market which is adjacent to the great stone church built during Spanish times. Aside from the peaceful atmosphere, Maria is a favorite spot fro visitors because of its lovely beaches. Particularly popular is Salagdoong Beach, which is now being developed by the Philippines Tourism Authority and the Provincial Government.
Other interesting places to visit in Maria are the Our Lady of Divine Providence Church and Belfry, which was established in 1889; the Bogo and Lilo-an forest reserves; Polo, Nagerong, Umpas, Bacong, Guiwanon, Lapak and Kaguso-an beaches; and the Kangbangang Waterfalls and underground caves.
